When it comes to getting flood insurance, many homeowners choose to not purchase a plan. They may feel like they don’t live in an area that can see a lot of water at a time. But more recently we are seeing that flooding can happen just about anywhere. As your flood insurance company we would like to talk about some of the most recent cases where having flood insurance would have saved you thousands of dollars.
Gulf Coast
You may have heard on the news or radio recently that the Gulf Coast, more specifically, Louisiana, got hit hard with storm on March 8th, which created a huge flooding event. There was talk of the notorious levies on the Louisiana coast failing again, causing even more damage to nearby neighborhoods. The storm also affected parts of Oklahoma, Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Missouri. Five deaths were caused by this storm and subsequent flooding and displaced about 3500 people.
Texas-Oklahoma
On May 24, 2015, a slow moving storm rested over much of Texas and Oklahoma causing significant flooding throughout both states. The Blanco River, which runs through central Texas, quickly rose to almost 30 feet above flooding levels overnight. Houston experienced flash flooding throughout the city and dealt with high river concerns with the Brazos River.
Colorado
In early September 2013, Colorado got hit by a stalled cold front that clashed with a warm humid monsoonal air that resulted in up to 21 inches of rain over the course of a couple of days. The St. Vrain and the Big Thompson Rivers exploded with water and caused millions of dollars in damage, leaving the cities of Lyons and Glen Haven unreachable for days. As many as nine lives were taken in this flood.
It seems like there is a new flooded area almost everyday and it doesn’t look like it is going to stop anytime soon. We urge all homeowners to invest in flood insurance. You will be glad when you are affected by a flood. Call Superior Flood, Inc today to see what we can offer you.
